In 1535 it was extended to a big Renaissance Castle and was called ''Hornstein Castle'', later in 1626 is was extended again and became ''Wilhelmsburg Castle''. Since 1923 it is a museum of art. From the 10th to the 12th century it was used as as Palatinate by the emporers of the Holy Roman Empire. Worth seeing is the historical old town of Quedlinburg. Quedlinburgs architectural heritage became UNESCO world heritage in 1994.
