86 Aerial photos World Heritage Roses Island Monument      Roses Island is a small island in the Wörlitz Garden Realm. It can be reached by a small ferryboat. While the rest of the park was open for visitors from the beginning Roses Island served as hideaway for Princess Luise of Brandenburg-Schwedt. She here silently enjoyed the flowerage of 6000 rose trees. Because of its isolated location it was used as leper colony in the 12th century. In 1717 it was given to some Armenian monks. Today the whole island is covered by their monastery.
