Ikaria is populated since 7000 b.C. In the 6th century b.C. it belonged to the kingdom of
Polykrates. Later it was adminstered by the crusaders, conquered by the Turks and became a
free state in 1912. A small island with an eventful history.

Kuckustein Castle was built in the 10th century by
King Heinrich I. From here he controled the trade roades in the area.

South of the Atlas Mountains begins the Sahara Desert, endless yellow planes with only a few green oasis. There was no one else on our radio frequency - called ''Desert Control''. We are alone here.
